One left-back in/one out? In-demand Robin Gosens addresses Barcelona links

Atalanta wing-back Robin Gosens has, on Sunday, spoken out, amid mounting links with La Liga giants Barcelona.

Euro star

German international Gosens of course lit up the international stage this summer, amid Die Mannschaft’s Euro 2020 campaign.

The 26-year-old, long known to fans of Serie A as an explosive left-sided option, truly announced himself on the European stage courtesy of a string of superb group stage performances.

One particular outing, featuring a goal and assist en route to a 4-2 downing of Portugal, saw Gosens cause something of a clamour amongst fans of Europe’s heavyweights, amid widespread calls for the defender to be targeted ahead of next season.

To this point, the likes of Juventus, Manchester City and Inter Milan have all been named as potential summer destinations for Gosens.

None, however, have been more persistently tipped to swoop for the Atalanta standout than La Liga giants Barcelona. Ronald Koeman and co. are understood to be on the lookout for left-sided defensive reinforcements this summer, with backup Junior Firpo on the verge of a move to Leeds United.

In turn, Gosens, boasting an array of attacking talents, has seemingly been identified as an ideal target.

‘Have a look’

It therefore came as little surprise when, during an interview with Sport1 earlier today, the German was drawn on the possibility of a future Camp Nou switch.

And Gosens appeared keen to leave the door open to such an outcome, hinting that a transfer over the weeks ahead is not out of the question:

‘We’ll have a look now. Already during the European Championship I told my dad that he should just leave me alone with the topic.’

‘Now I’m back home again, I’ll talk to him and see if something is on the program.’

‘I’m not lying when I say that I don’t know anything about it at the moment. My entire focus was on the Euros.’

‘When something happens, let’s see.’
